Portrait of Jonathan D. Melvin
Founder & CEO
Software architect and developer
Degrees: Yale, Caltech
Programming since 1969

Jon Melvin has spent over 30 years building solutions to information problems — from office automation, to process reengineering, to high-technology data gathering and analysis. He has designed and programmed business, engineering, and automation systems since 1969, with some of his earliest work dating back to 1961. His clients have included individual users, research laboratories, professional offices, high-technology companies, and universities, with development and networking work carried out at Caltech, UCLA, Hughes, Kodak, the University of Rochester, General Dynamics, and NDE — across the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, and Sweden.

His development experience spans distributed, internet-based database systems for business processes, technical reports, and inventory; student admission and financial aid systems for universities; real-time and embedded systems for data collection and control; geophysical data collection; GIS; medical imaging; interactive graphics systems; high-speed data-collection networks for medical and nuclear applications; union contract management; and other specialized systems.

He holds advanced degrees in mathematics and physics from Yale and Caltech, has published widely on computer software systems as well as geophysical and physics research, and teaches computer users at professional, business, graduate, undergraduate, and grade-school levels — always aiming to make the concepts easy to understand.
